Tools and Configuration: A Sample Tablet Sized Layout

Normally, you will deny access to most of these for most users. But an admin person can turn them on or off by access group, userid or any of a couple dozen other factors.

There are 3 levels of permission normally used:

Maintenance Connection Everywhere:

  • They would have access to

    • My licenses

    • Accessibility Configuration (for aspects such as making elements on the screen larger or smaller to accommodate the thousands of devices out there that display things bigger or smaller – and now you want to set the product to work based on your eyesight and finger size. If you have good eyesight and tiny fingers or a pen or mouse input device, you will likely want to pick a value that displays as much as possible on the screen in tiny letters. If you have poor eyesight or large fingers, you may want to expand the size of everything, with the trade off that you won’t see as much on the screen an any given time.)

    • Retire Device – used when you want to wipe all data from the device

    • Set Login PIN – this is a ‘second level’ of security. Your computer/cellphone/tablet is normally the ‘first level’ of security.

  • Administrators or when helping a specific technician with a problem would have access to features in Advanced Configuration, Query Engine, SQL Administrator and the database viewer.

  • One or more people will need to have access to the ‘License: User Permissions” so they can specify who (by name or access group or many other factors) should have access to each MCe module.
